Toyota Aurion Joins Queensland Police Service Fleet Of Vehicles
by: James Russell
Toyota’s new Aurion Sportivo SX6 and prodigy V6 will join the Queensland Police Service fleet of operational and support vehicles. Queensland Police has chosen the Aurion after undertaking extensive tests at its Mount Cotton driver training centre.
Toyota has provided their Aurion for testing to Queensland Police prior to the car’s official launching. This has provided the Queensland Police the opportunity to evaluate the car’s various abilities especially in terms of braking, cornering and handling performance. The Queensland Police was also able to test the Aurion’s compatibility for internal fittings, lights and sirens.
According to Inspector Maurice Poiner, Queensland Police’s Officer in Charge of Transport, the Aurion provided the service with an alternative to the V6 that they traditionally select. He further stated, "We were very interested in looking at the Aurion when we first heard about it. In testing it was very well received by the members of the driver training unit. It met all our needs. Therefore, we are more than willing to put it in the field."
Inspector Poiner also pointed out that the Aurion’s front-wheel drive design with Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control and anti-lock brakes with Brake Assist made it suitable to the grueling police work.
"The front-wheel drive Aurion meets the demands of police work and has a number of advantages in high density public areas."
The Sportivo SX6 will be used in both marked and unmarked roles while the Prodigy will be utilized for non-active police duties. The Aurion police cars have a strong on-road presence and the Queensland Police’s selection was a great endorsement for Toyota’s new model as stated by Toyota Queensland Government Fleet Sales Manager Les Calvert. The addition of Aurion has widened the array of Queensland Police existing Toyota fleet that includes HiLux, HiAce, Coaster and LandCruiser 70, 100 and Prado.
