Top Vehicles By Autoweek Editors Honored At 2007 Naias
by: Hannah Racey

Everybody has favorites. Bill may like Ford cars. Susan may be attracted much by the power of pickup trucks. Tom may have vehicles using AEM V2 intake as his favorite.

Sure enough, the editorial staff at AutoWeek has chosen their set of favorite vehicles for the currently ongoing 2007 North American International Show (or commonly known as the NAIAS). And the list of vehicles has already been announced at the annual Design Forum that AutoWeek sponsors and holds. The Design Forum was held at the Cobo Conference and Exhibition Center held in Detroit. It was Dutch Mandel, as part of the forum’s dinner and program, who shared vehicles included in the AutoWeek Editors’ Choice Awards.

From all of the vehicles showcased at the 2007 NAIAS, the Dodge Viper was chosen as the most fun vehicle. Bob Gritzinger, the senior editor for news of the magazine, shares, “600 hp, 8.4 liter V10, breathing so heavy the Dodge boys had to add half a dozen new hood vents just to bleed off the excess heat. The car goes 0-60 mph in less than four seconds, and goes 0-100-0 mph in 12 seconds flat. What could be more fun than that?

“No matter what you call it, this Ford sports sedan based on a stretched Mustang chassis is one hot concept. We can only hope Ford takes the next step to put this pony car for the family man into production as soon as possible,” Mandel expresses about the Ford Interceptor which has been AutoWeek’s choice for Best Concept.

Gritzinger now did state that AutoWeek chose the Chevrolet Volt as the most significant vehicle through a statement: “The idea behind the car – a pure electric powertrain that gets its energy from plugging in at home or work, or from an on-board generator powered by a small gasoline engine – is surprisingly simple. GM says they’ll be ready to build this car by 2010 or 2012, and unless battery companies can’t come through, Volt and GM’s E-flex System could spell the beginning of the end of America’s addiction to foreign oil.”

AutoWeek’s editorial staff also did choose the Best in Show vehicle. And their unanimous choice was the Jaguar C-XF. Why did they choose the vehicle for the award? Mandel explains, “C-XF, the concept version of the coming S-Type replacement, is the sexiest four-door we’ve seen from Jaguar in years. This car draws a line from past Jaguar sedans to Jaguar sedans of the future.”

Hannah Racey is a 35 year old native of Chicago, Ill. She has been a car afficionado since she can remember. She now works for an automotive company based in Detroit, Mi. as a consultant. You can visit AEM V2 intake for more information.
